Why would you think that a CF DS would shatter in the event of a U-joint failure? If it was indeed that fragile I would fear that the shaft would shatter when 500+ horses and and an equal amount of lbs-ft where applied in a hurry. I would guess that a CF DS would make a much better vaulting pole than a steel unit.... As I recall from my prior Drag/SCCA days once you got in to the modified classes a DS shaft "hoop" was a safety requirement the same as roll bars, harnesses, etc.. Probably not a bad idea for some of the high HP monsters you guys are creating.
